HELIOROC is an autorotation recovery model rocket.
HELIOROC boosts like a conventional rocket with its helicopter rotors folded downward,
then on apogee they are released and deployed. Just like a helicopter whos motor has
failed, the rotors rotate downhill and spin up. The resulting velocity across the
"wings" produce lift, which reduces the velocity at which HELIOROC drops. This can result in a soft
landing, or if you fly in conditions with thermals present can result in the vehicle
briefly going UP during recovery!
HELIOROC is a bit more of a challenge to build and fly than many "model rockets", but
it is a real crowd pleaser. Use lower thrust motors and shorter delays.
